Christ at the Heart of St Aidan's

At St Aidan's Catholic Academy, our mission is rooted in the words of Jesus from John 10:10: "I have come that they may have life and have it to the full." Guided by this mission, we strive to create a community where Christ is at the heart of everything we do, enabling every person to flourish spiritually, academically, socially and personally. Through lived Gospel values, prayer, service and learning, we support every member of our community to become the person God created them to be.

In our 2023 inspection, the Catholic Schools Inspectorate judged St Aidan's Catholic Academy to be Outstanding in all areas, recognising the strength of our Catholic life and mission, religious education, and prayer and liturgy. 2023 CSI Report

What CSI Said About Our Catholic Life and Mission

"The provision for Catholic life and mission is underpinned by the belief that Christ is at the heart of the school."

"All staff are outstanding role models in promoting servant leadership."

"Students and staff clearly articulate the charism of St Aidan's, which is one of lived Gospel values."

"There is a steadfast commitment to the most vulnerable within the school and the local community."

Living Our Mission

Our mission is brought to life through the relationships we build, the opportunities we provide, and the service we offer to others. Inspired by the example of Christ and the charism of Blessed Edmund Rice, we seek to nurture young people who live their faith through action and contribute positively to society.

Students are encouraged to:

  • Live out Gospel values every day.
  • Show respect, compassion, forgiveness and justice.
  • Participate fully in the prayer life of the school.
  • Serve others through acts of charity and social action.
  • Develop as responsible citizens of faith and integrity.
  • Stand alongside those who are vulnerable or marginalised.

The Catholic Schools Inspectorate recognised that students benefit from a "full and rich Catholic life experience" and understand the importance of putting faith into action.

Catholic Social Teaching in Action

Catholic Social Teaching is an integral part of life at St Aidan's. Through a wide range of charitable, leadership and community initiatives, students are empowered to respond to the needs of others and become agents of change in the world.

The CSI report highlighted that:

"Students understand the links between the work that they do and Catholic Social Teaching values, speaking about this eloquently."

Examples of this work include supporting local food banks, raising funds for local, national and international charities, helping those experiencing homelessness, participating in partnership projects and promoting human dignity, justice and the common good.

Prayer, Formation and Faith Development

Prayer and worship are central to the life of our school community. Students are given opportunities to deepen their relationship with Christ through prayer, liturgy, retreats, chaplaincy programmes and opportunities for spiritual reflection.

Through these experiences, students are encouraged to grow in faith, develop moral responsibility and respond to God's call in their daily lives.

An Inclusive Catholic Community

We are proud to be a welcoming and inclusive Catholic community where every individual is respected, valued and celebrated as a child of God.

The Catholic Schools Inspectorate noted:

"Inclusivity is a priority for all at St Aidan's; the school celebrates the uniqueness of the individual."

Students of all faiths and none are valued members of our school family and contribute richly to our community. We believe that every person possesses God-given dignity and is called to flourish.

Called to Serve

Inspired by the example of Christ and the witness of St Aidan, we seek to develop young people who lead with humility, serve with compassion and make a positive contribution to society.

As recognised by the Catholic Schools Inspectorate, St Aidan's is a community characterised by servant leadership, lived Gospel values and a deep commitment to ensuring that Christ remains at the heart of all we do. Through our mission to help every person live life to the full, we strive to form young people who are faith-filled, compassionate and committed to making the world a better place.
