Physical Education Enrichment Programme
Morning Futsal in Sports Hall from 8:00-8:25 a.m.

Futsal is open to all students regardless of ability and is a great way for both current footballers to improve their skills and new players to experience a fun and fast paced sport. Futsal shares similarities to football, however focuses on improving players ball control and dribbling skills by encouraging players to perform skills. Students attending just need to bring their trainers, and they can play in their shirt and trousers.
After School Enrichment Activities
Football Training at the Limes (2:50-4:00 p.m.)

Football training is open to all students regardless of ability and experience. It is a great way for students to develop their football skills and participate in competitive matches for the school. The school enters national and regional competitions and requires large squads to ensure we can fulfil all of the fixtures. Even if students don’t play in the first game, the training sessions allow all students to progress and have the opportunity to represent the school. All sessions take place at the Limes which is located on Mowbray Road just a short walk from the main site. Students will walk round to the Limes and be dismissed from their at the end of training.
Boxing – Monday in the Sports Hall (2:50-3:50 p.m.)
The boxing club is delivered by Mr Miller, who is a boxing coach from the Olympian boxing club in Rhyope who has volunteered his time to help promote and develop boxing at St Aidan’s. The club allows beginners and more experienced boxers the opportunity to develop their boxing skills and have the opportunity to shadow box and spar. The club is free to attend.
Rugby Club – Monday at Ashbrooke Cricket Club (2:50-4:00 p.m.)
Rugby club offers the opportunity for beginners and more experienced players the chance to develop their skills and rugby performance. At St Aidans we are trying to increase the level of participation in rugby and that is why we are in partnership with Ashrooke and get to use their fantastic facilities. Attending the club will give you the opportunity to learn new skills, play competitive rugby matches and be part of Sunderland Rugby Club.
Year 8 Futsal – Monday in the Sports Hall (2:50-4:00 p.m.)
Futsal is open to all students regardless of ability and is a great way for both current footballers to improve their skills and new players to experience a fun and fast paced sport. Futsal shares similarities to football, however focuses on improving players ball control and dribbling skills by encouraging players to perform skills made famous by players such as Ronaldo, Messi and Ronaldinho. Who all grew up playing the sport. Students attending will also have the opportunity to be selected to represent the school in local tournaments and fixtures.
Squash Club – Monday at Ashrbooke Cricket Club (3:00-4:00 p.m.) *£3 charge per session
Squash Coaching takes place at Ashbrooke cricket Club. Ben Sims, who has many years’ experience of coaching and playing, carries out the sessions. Students are required to make their own way to the Cricket club. Equipment is provided and footwear with white soles are preferred. The charge for these sessions are £3 per session.
Fitness Club – Monday & Wednesday in the GYM (2:50-4:00 p.m.)
Fitness club is available for all year groups and allows students to develop their fitness in all areas. Whether you want to take part in set exercise programmes or do your own thing this club will be suitable for you. Fitness club is a good way to push and challenge yourself and will help you along the way to the top of your mountain.
Basketball Club – Tuesday in the Sports Hall (2:50-4:00 p.m.)
Basketball after school club is a perfect opportunity for students, of all ages and abilities, to develop their understanding of the rules of basketball and their basketball performance through fun and competitive games. If you attend the club, there will also be a chance for you to represent the school in local basketball competitions organised with nearby schools.
Badminton Club – Thursday in the Sports Hall (2:50-400.p.m.)
Badminton club is open to all year groups and all levels of ability. This is a fun club where you will have the opportunity to develop your badminton performance, play fun and competitive games. The school enters badminton teams into local competitions, so attending the club will increase your chances of being part of the team.
Table Tennis – Tuesday & Wednesday in the Briery Hall (2:50-400.p.m.)
Table tennis is available to all ability ranges and ages and gives students the opportunity to develop their techniques, skills and tactics. These fun sessions are tailored to ensure that all students enjoy the challenge of improving along with some competitions.
Rowing Club – Wenesday 3:00-4:00 at Sunderland City Rowing Club
The rowing club gives students an excellent opportunity to be coached by Sunderland City Rowing club’s coaches at their club in South Hylton. The students will learn the correct rowing technique and take part in fun activities to help develop them. The students will be transported from St Aidan’s to the Rowing Club but parents will be asked to collect their son from the rowing club at 4:00 p.m. This club is free of charge.
Bootcamp Fitness – Friday in the Sports Hall (2:50-3:30 p.m.) *£3 per session
Mr Banks is a personal trainer who runs fitness bootcamp across Sunderland. The session will contain a range of exercises to help the students improve their aerobic endurance, muscular endurance and strength. The sessions will last 40 minutes and cost £3 per session.
