Our department focuses on the role of being a global citizen. We provide students with an opportunity to immerse themselves in the ever-changing world around them and ensuring that they have a strong sense of place.

The Geography curriculum aims to inspire students with curiosity and fascination about the world.  The curriculum aims to equip pupils with knowledge and give them an understanding about natural and human environments, diverse places, people and resources, including the Earth’s key physical and human processes. As pupils progress, so should their understanding of complex interrelationships between physical and human processes, at different scales and how they can change overtime.  They should have a critical understanding of the world and its rapidly changing environmental and social challenges and how to tackle them.

Curriculum Intention:

  • Good understanding of key places in detail, considering their geographical similarities, differences importance and links.
  • Locational knowledge on; the world’s countries, their environmental regions, key physical and human characteristics and major cities.
  • Understand links between processes, interdependence, scale and change.
  • Physical Geography– students should have sound knowledge and understanding of plate tectonics, weather and climate, contrasting biomes, rivers and coasts.
  • Human geography– students should have sound knowledge and understanding of population and urbanisation, international development, economic activity in the primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary sectors; and the use of natural resources.
  • Understand how human and physical processes interact to influence, and change landscapes, environments and the climate; and how human activity relies on effective functioning of natural systems.
  • are competent in the geographical skills needed to:
    • collect, analyse and communicate with a range of data gathered through experiences of fieldwork that deepen their understanding of geographical processes
    • interpret a range of sources of geographical information, including maps, diagrams, globes, aerial photographs and Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
    • communicate geographical information in a variety of ways, including through maps, numerical and quantitative skills and writing at length.
