Our department focuses on the role of being a global citizen. We provide students with an opportunity to immerse themselves in the ever-changing world around them and ensuring that they have a strong sense of place.

Key Stage 3

At Key Stage 3 students investigate social, economic and environmental issues in the world from the UK and its global position to contemporary issues such as the Migrant Crisis, energy security and superpower geographies. Year 7 study Geographical Skills including map, the Physical and Human Geography of the UK, Africa is not a Country, Weather and Climate and Extreme Environments. Year 8 study Tectonics, Coasts, Energy Issues and Superpower geographies.

Key Stage 4

At Key Stage 4 students follow the AQA exam board. This exam board was chosen because of the emphasis that is placed on contemporary topics and up-to-date case studies which reflect current thinking and interests in Geography in the 21st century.

Key Stage 5

At Key Stage 5 students follow the Edexcel exam board. This specification maintains the balance between physical and human geography in Year 12 and in Year 13, students study geopolitical synoptic themes which reflect our interconnected world. Students will acquire and develop a range of transferable skills, such as numeracy, data interpretation, research skills, critical analysis, report writing and ICT. There is a strong emphasis placed on academic enquiry and career aspirations which is highly important as Geography graduates have one of the highest rates of graduate employment. Geography is a strong ‘facilitating’ subject at A-Level as it compliments both sciences and the arts.

As a department we strive to teach a diverse curriculum which will ensure our students become confident, capable and successful geographers.
